Looking back, I began to unravel the first time us together went to SK Taman Megah for social engagement project. Having not done this sort of thing before definitely got me feeling nervous knowing that teaching the students there to play handball is what we had to do. Nevertheless, I still remember feeling excited in the morning and those excitement just kept growing more and more throughout the day.
It was cold in the morning when we all gathered before heading to the school. We had some bread for breakfast and all committees started taking part in their roles as soon as breakfast was over. Departure was slightly delayed from scheduled time due to the failure of some other members to show up at the gathering place on time. However, we managed to turn up at the school at eight in the morning as promised.
First time meeting the students was fun. We had a mini ice breaking session where names and ages were exchanged. We didn't get to do much like playing games since time was definitely not on our side. The sun was already warming up the court after briefing was over. We then proceeded with warming up session and started training right away. The whole training process was tiring and literally testing our fitness. We had some short breaks in between only to be continued with further training.
We then had a half and hour break for brunch at ten in the morning. We distributed nasi lemak and mineral water to the students before we had one our own. I could not describe how hungry we were and that was one of the moment where I thought nasi lemak could really taste that good.
After the break, that was when the fun part kicked in. We had a friendly match between the committees and students. The match lasted for an hour. At first I thought of not taking the match seriously but for fun sake instead. But I got to say the kids were really good slowly throughout the game, making myself wanting to beat them. I have to give credit for our amazing teamwork which granted us the victory. Every one of us played really well and the breaking sweats and energies under the extremely hot sun really paid off. We all were really happy and I saw sad faces in the students. We ended the game with hugs and congratulating each other.
After cleaning the court, we had a postmortem session where we had a discussion on the event that just took place. In the discussion, we raised our opinions on what went wrong and how to improve them. A few mistakes were pointed out but everything were attached with solutions in hoping that the same mistake won't occur again in the future. We all then headed back to our college only to anticipate for the next time. I really enjoyed myself throughout the entire time since everything was a new experience for me. Can't wait and definitely looking forward for another visit in the future.
Till next time!
